Immanuel Lutheran Church (ILC) in Oxford, CT has been recognized by Reconciling Works as a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) congregation. This recognition comes after the congregation unanimously adopted a public statement of welcome for people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions, and a commitment to racial equity. 
 
According to ILC’s church council president, Julie Cormack, “We have always been a welcoming church, however, becoming an RIC congregation sends a much stronger public message to the members of the communities we serve.” 
 
The Oxford church’s RIC statement reads:
 We affirm that all people share the worth that springs from being unique individuals created by our loving God – including but not limited to, people of every race, nationality, age, marital status, gender identity, gender expression, economic or social status, sexual orientation, mental and physical abilities. Believing that we are all equal before God and one another, we affirm a commitment to racial equity.
 We affirm that this congregation welcomes all people and expects and encourages them to share in the abundant life within this church, rooted in the Word and Sacraments. Ours shall be a safe place for all people.
 We resolve to identify as a ‘Reconciling in Christ’ congregation and resolve to let this welcome be known in appropriate ways. Everybody, everybody, everybody is welcome at Immanuel Lutheran Church!
